Overview

The Grand Old Lady is located on Canada Hill in Miri, the second largest state in Sarawak, East Malaysia. Canada Hill is also known as Bukit Telaga Minyak by the locals and it is popular for the first oil well drilled – The Grand Old Lady.

The Grand Old Lady is not a literal old lady. It is Miri’s first drilled oil well which took place in the year of 1910 by Shell Company. The Grand Old Lady is one of Miri’s many main places of interest and also act as an important monument in the eyes of the local’s and definitely, the world’s. This famous landmark has a height of 30 meters and marked the beginning of modernization of Miri city as back in the years before the discovery of The Grand Old Lady, Miri is just an undeveloped fishing village.
